ISA Start Sailing course  (Level 1)

This is our most popular course and a great way to try out the wonderful sport of sailing. Using the Skud 18 - an accessible sailing boat suitable for all abilities, we are sure you will soon be hooked!

The aim of this course is to introduce you to the skills you will need to take control of a sailing boat in light winds, all while under the watchful eye of your instructor. The Skud 18 will not capsize, allowing you to learn to sail without a wetsuit and without the worry of ending up in the water. Designed as a Paralympic sailing vessel, the Skud has built-in seats that allow us to accommodate people of all abilities on our courses, including those with limited or reduced mobility.

You will cover many nautical topics, such as rigging up a boat, tying knots, sailing across the wind, upwind and down wind as well as getting to grips with turning the boat through the wind ("tacking" and "gybing"). Other subjects covered include interpreting weather forecasts, tidal information and a thorough review of relevant safety issues.

Most importantly of all, we are sure that you will have a serious amount of fun with our fully qualified and certified instructors!

DSCF6943.jpg

This is the next step up from the Start Sailing course and introduces new sailors to the next set of skills. The aim is by the end of this course you will be sailing on your own in light wind conditions without the assistance of the instructor. As with the Start Sailing course we use the Skud 18 making this course accessible to people of all abilities.

You'll recap everything you would have learned in the Start Sailing course to brush up and improve those skills further. You'll also cover things like picking up moorings, bringing the boat alongside piers and pontoons, learning how to recover a man overboard safely, get an introduction to some traffic rules regarding boats as well as building up your knowledge around weather forecasts and tidal information further.

This is a fun filled course with some serious skill building and learning taking place!
